Men's Golf Set for Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational This Week

FARMINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State men’s golf team returns south of the border for an in-state tournament on Monday and Tuesday when the Nittany Lions compete in the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational hosted by West Virginia University at Mystic Rock Golf Course at Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania.  

The 54-hole event is scheduled to begin with 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, while Tuesday’s final round is slated for tee times beginning at 8 a.m.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State’s lineup remains consistent from its opening tournament in Canada with one change as Alex Creamean, Jackson Saroney, Andres Barraza and Tim Peters teeing it up once again with Billy Pabst Jr. slotting into the starting five, replacing Zach Smith.
  • Nick Werner will once again compete as an individual for the second-straight tournament.
  • Creamean fired an 8-under, 208, to open the season up north finishing the week tied for fifth while Saroney finished 8-over and tied for 40th to open the season and pace the Nittany Lions.

THE COURSE

  • A legendary Pete Dye-designed golf course, Mystic Rock is a par-72, 7,526-yard mammoth and is recognized as one of his greatest creations. It stands as one of the country’s finest courses, offering championship-level golf in a spectacular mountain setting.
  • The course saw extensive bunker renovations in the summer of 2021, solidifying its place as one of the country’s premier mountain courses.

THE FIELD

  • The tournament field features Penn State and the host Mountaineers, along with 17 others; Bucknell, Campbell, Davidson, Delaware, Eastern Kentucky, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Mount St. Mary’s, Richmond, Robert Morris, Saint Francis, Seton Hall, Towson, VCU, Western Carolina and William & Mary.
  • WVU is defending their 2024 team title as they finished 2-over for the week with then-junior Kaleb Wilson earning individual medalist honors with a 7-under, 209.
  • The Nittany Lions finished tied for fourth in last year’s event paced by a top-10 finish by Creamean at 2-over, 218, and tied for eighth. Barraza also had a solid week carding a top-20 finish in 19th position at 7-over, 223.
  • This year, all individuals other than West Virginia will compete in the Shepherd’s Rock Individual at the Shepard’s Rock Golf Course also atNemacolin, during the same time.
