UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 B1G) will host two home games this coming weekend, opening up its home slate on Friday and Sunday. The Nittany Lions welcome Delaware (0-2) to Happy Valley on Friday, Sept. 5, for a 5 p.m. game. Penn State then hosts St. Joseph’s (2-0) on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 12 p.m.

Penn State is coming off a tough 5-1 loss at No. 3 Virginia last Friday night. The Nittany Lions picked up a second period goal from Natalie Freeman and trailed only 2-1 at the break but the Cavaliers were able to pull away in the second half. Freeman has two points while sophomore Morgan Snyder has one point off an assist.

Delaware will enter the game with an 0-2 mark. The Blue Hens dropped two one-goal games last weekend at home, falling 5-4 to Temple and 5-4 to California. Penn State leads the all-time series with the Blue Hens 20-7-2.

St. Joseph’s will carry a 2-0 record into the Sunday game. The Hawks posted a 2-1 (so) win over UConn on Friday and then downed New Hampshire 2-0 on Sunday. The Nittany Lions have an 11-1-0 lead in the all-time series with the Hawks.

Penn State plays two more home games next weekend. The Nittany Lions host Bucknell on Friday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. and then welcome Kent State to State College on Sunday, Sept. 14, for a 12 p.m. contest.
