Men's Golf Set for Moraine Intercollegiate in Ohio This Week

KETTERING, Ohio – On the heels of back-to-back top-eight finishes over the past two weeks, the Penn State men’s golf team travels to Ohio for the Moraine Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Miami (Ohio) at Moraine Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

SETTING THE STAGE

  • This week’s tournament features a 78-player field compiled of 14 teams and eight individuals as the Nittany Lions and host RedHawks are joined by Dayton, Bowling Green, Wright State, VCU, Iowa, Rhode Island, Illinois, UConn, Michigan, Xavier, Ohio State and Missouri.
  • Monday will feature 36 holes of continuous play following an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start with Tuesday’s final round will also feature an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.

THE TEAM

  • Junior Alex Creamean leads the way with three-straight top-20 finishes to open the season after tying for 12th at 2-under, 140, last week in Kentucky.
  • Freshman Jackson Saroney and senior Andres Barraza both finished tied for 14th with matching scores or 1-under, 141, last week to also find themselves back in the lineup this week in Ohio.
  • One of Penn State’s program standards is a top-25 finish earns you exemption into the following tournament, something adopted from the Korn Ferry Tour in a way to prepare the young athletes for the next step in their careers.
  • Creamean and Saroney continued their hot play with Barazza joining the group following his first top-25 finish of the year.
  • Freshman Nick Werner will make his second-straight appearance in the starting five while junior Robby O’Regan slots into the fifth and final spot making his first start this season after a strong week of qualifying back home.
  • Creamean leads the team with a 70.25 stroke average this fall followed by Saroney at 72.25 and Barraza at 74.00. As a team Penn State is averaging a score of 289 per 18 holes through the opening three events.
