UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State cross country teams are competing in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University this Friday, Oct. 3.
The Paul Short Run, set to take place on Lehigh’s Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa., begins at 11 a.m. with the men’s college gold race while the women’s college gold race will start at 11:45 a.m.
Neither Penn State team has competed since Sept. 12, when they hosted the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Penn State Blue & White Courses. Six Nittany Lions finished in the top 10, winning the women’s team 6k title, as Florence Caron finished in first place with a time of 19:54.7. The women’s team is currently ranked 15th nationally and first in the Mid-Atlantic region in the most recent USTFCCCA polls.
The men’s team is ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region after a second-place finish in their last race at the Spiked Shoe Invitational. Isaac Oppermann paced the Nittany Lions in the men’s 5.2-mile race with a time of 25:27.3, good for 14th place. Two other Nittany Lions, Nick Sloff (18th, 25:28.4) and Jaxon Schoedel (20th, 25:29.9), also finished in top 20.
THE ANNUAL PAUL SHORT RUN MEET
The Paul Short Run started in 1969 and continued to grow through the years into one of the largest collegiate cross country meets in the country. 166 women’s teams and 131 men’s teams will compete in this year’s meet. Each race Penn State is competing in contains 40 teams.
