Women’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Paul Short Run; Men Finish Sixth

Ada Rand led the way for the Nittany Lion women while Nick Scoff paced the men.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Penn State cross country teams put together strong performances at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University as the 15th-ranked women’s team finished second and the men finished sixth on Friday morning.

MEN’S COLLEGE GOLD 8K RACE

Two Nittany Lions finished in the top 20 to solidify a top 10 finish at the Paul Short Run for Penn State. Penn State finished sixth with 192 points, just behind Wingate (181 pts) and Harvard (147 pts).  

Nick Sloff paced the Nittany Lions, finishing in 14th place (23:30.9) while Brian Dicola finished five spots behind him in 19th (23:40.1). In his first collegiate 8K race, Jaxon Schoedel finished third for Penn State and 41st overall (23:57.8). Logan Strawser (24:07.7 PR, 54th) broke his previous best time by almost 37 seconds while Brendan Flynn (24:11.8, 64th) rounded out the top five finishers.

Georgetown won the Men’s College Gold 8K Race with 102 points, followed by Utah State (123 pts) and Texas A&M (137 pts.)

WOMEN’S COLLEGE GOLD 6K RACE

With three top 20 finishers, the Nittany Lions finished just five points behind Villanova for a second-place finish at the Paul Short Run. Ada Rand placed 15th overall, setting a PR with a blistering 20:10.3, 30 seconds fasters than her previous best time. Claire Daniels (20:15.8, 17th) and Charlotte Costich (20:17.0 PR, 18th) were close behind, rounding out the top three for Penn State. Costich’s 20:17.0 is her fastest time at this distance by 29 seconds. Katie Dallas came next in 28th, also breaking her own personal best with a time of 20:25.3 while Leah Hatcher (20:37.0, 37th) was the fifth finisher for the Nittany Lions.

Villanova took the team title with 110 points, just getting by the Nittany Lions (115 pts) and then Georgetown (143 pts) finished in third.

WHAT’S NEXT

Penn State will take a week off before the women's team heads to Madison, Wis. for the Nuttycombe Invitational on October 17 and the men willl head to Columbia, Mo. for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on October 18.
