No. 6 Women's Ice Hockey Travels to Delaware for First Meeting in Program History
The Nittany Lions open the AHA schedule at Delaware for first meeting.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 6/7 Penn State women’s ice hockey team is preparing for their first Atlantic Hockey America game of the season, traveling to face Delaware for the first time in program history. Game one is set to begin at 6 p.m. and puck drop for game two is 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed on FloHockey.

HISTORY
- This is the first meeting between the two programs as this is Delaware's inaugural season.
- Delaware Head Coach Allison Coomey joined the Blue Hens after spending her prior seven seasons on the Penn State coaching staff.
- Delaware assistant coach Melissa Samoskevich also spent two seasons with the Nittany Lions under Coach Kampersal from 2020 to 2022.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
- Delaware is 1-3-0 and are coming off their first win in program history, defeating Holy Cross on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2-1.
- Katelynn Charlton leads the Bue Hens with four points so far on the season with three goals and one assist.
- She scored the game-winning goal in Delaware’s first win over Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.
- Delaware has five transfers and 17 freshman players.
- The Blue Hens have split time between two goaltenders. Charlotte Payne has started two games, winning her second, and has posted a 2.02 GAA and .947 save percentage.
- Mattie Robitzer has also started two games, going 0-2 with a 4.05 GAA and .913 save percentage.

STECKER NAMED DEFENSEMAN AHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
- Senior defenseman Leah Stecker was named the AHA Defenseman of the Week for the first time in her Nittany Lion career.
- She had three points over the weekend, notching an assist in Friday’s win before adding a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 5-3 win.
- She now has five points on the season, tied with Danica Maynard for the lead among defenseman on Penn State.
- Stecker also has a +5 on-ice rating, good for third on the Nittany Lions.
- Dating back to last season, Stecker has eight points in her last 10 games.
HISTORIC START
- Penn State is off to their best start in program history with a 4-0 record with two ranked wins.
- The Nittany Lions have scored 16 goals in their first four games of the season — the most in program history through the first four games.
- Despite this, not a single skater has a had more than one goal in any game this season, with 10 Nittany Lions having at least one goal.
NITTANY LION OFFENSE
- Grace Outwater and Tessa Janecke have the team-lead with three goals each while Janecke has six points overall to lead Penn State.
- The Penn State power play has scored in three out of four games this season on nine total opportunities good for fourth nationally.
- 16 of 18 skaters currently have a point through four games, including every freshman skater.
- Penn State is currently ranked eighth nationally in scoring offense with four goals per game.
- They have the fifth most assists with 27 and sixth most goals at 16.
PENN STATE IN THE POLLS
- The Penn State Nittany Lions currently sit sixth in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey polls.
- It is the highest ranking the program has achieved in either poll in its history.
DEFENSE TO OFFENSE
- Penn State is currently tied for eighth nationally in scoring defense (1.5 GAA) and total scoring margin (2.5).
- They have given up 62 shots on goal through four games, the fifth least nationally, and the least among teams that have played four games.
- Two blue liners, Leah Stecker and Danica Maynard, currently have five points each and are tied for the fourth most among defenders nationally.
DOMINANCE IN THE DOT
- The Nittany Lions are currently fourth in team faceoff win percentage nationally at 62.8 percent.
- Tessa Janecke paces the squad with a 65.1-win percentage and 56 total faceoff wins, which puts her in a tie for fifth nationally.
- Mikah Keller leads all freshman on the Nittany Lions in faceoff wins with 26, which sits 15th among freshman skaters nationally.
START FAST
- In the first four games of the season, Penn State has scored half of their goals in the first period, outscoring opponents 8-1.
- The Nittany Lions have also outshot opponents 55-15 in the first period.
CHRISTIAN-KELLER-OUTWATER
- The Nittany Lion third line has played a part in seven of the team’s 16 goals this season.
- They have a combined 12 points, the most of any line combination Penn State has used this season.
- Maddy Christian is tied for the national lead in game-winning goals with two, scoring the game-winner in both games against Vermont.
- Grace Outwater is tied for the team-lead in goals with three while Keller is second among Nittany Lion freshmen in points (4).
