UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State women’s basketball squares off against Coppin State on Wednesday, Nov. 12 in Rec Hall. The matchup between the Lady Lions and the Eagles is set to tip off at 11:30 a.m. as PSU hosts Field Trip Day.
Penn State looks to extend its record to 3-0 for the 28th time in program history with a win on Wednesday while Coppin State looks to bounce back from road loss at fellow Big Ten opponent Ohio State.

LAST TIME OUT
- Five double figure scoring performances powered the Lady Lions to 82-77 come-from-behind win over Cincinnati on Friday night.
- Kiyomi McMiller led the charge with 20 points to go with seven assists, five rebounds and five steals.
- Moriah Murray posted 18 points using five three pointers in addition to three assists and three rebounds.
- Gracie Merkle notched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 boards while shooting 7-of-10 from the field.
- Téa Cléante also recorded a 14-point performance in her Lady Lion debut. She also posted four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
- Viktoria Ranisavljevic rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
- As a team, PSU produced 13 steals and converted 28 points from their defense.
- The Lady Lions outscored the Bearcats 42-26 in the paint, marking the second consecutive contest they have outscored their opponent by double-digits in that category.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Coppin State is 1-2 to start the 2025-26 campaign with losses to Arizona State and Ohio State, both common opponents of PSU.
- Khila Morris leads the Eagles in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game including a 15-point performance against Ohio State.
- Patricia Sosa-Lora also averages double-digit scoring (10.0 points per game) and leads the team in rebounding (8.0).
- In their most recent contest against Ohio State, the Eagles kept the score close in the first half at a 36-32 scoreline, but OSU pulled away in the second stanza to result in an 88-59 final score.
- Coppin State finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 19-15 record including 8-6 in conference play. The Eagles made a run to the second round of the WNIT where they defeated Colgate in the opening round and losing to Cleveland State.
PENN STATE – COPPIN STATE SERIES
- Penn State and Coppin State have faced twice throughout the team’s history.
- The Lady Lions own a 2-0 record with wins coming in 2008 and 2020.
- The first meeting between the squads was in 200 at the Timeout for HIV/AIDS Tournament in Malibu, Calif.
LADY LIONS IN THE RANKS
- Merkle finished the 2024-25 campaign ranked third in the nation and first in the conference in field goal percentage (.670). Among power 4 players, she ranked first in field goal percentage, 15th in double-doubles (13), 20th in rebounds per game (8.6) and 23rd in blocks per game.
- Moriah Murray sat 21st in the nation in three pointers per game (2.63) and second in the B1G in 2024-25.
- As a team, the Lady Lions ranked 14th in the nation in assists per game (17.7) and fifth in the Big Ten.
- After two games to kick off the 2025-26 campaign, Merkle sits 13th in the country in field goal percentage (78.3) and second in the B1G.
- McMiller ranks 20th in the nation in field goals (20) and field goal attempts (42).
NEW FACES
- Kieger added two transfers to her roster, Kiyomi McMiller and Amiya Evans. Sophomore transfer from Rutgers McMiller, averaged 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in her rookie campaign. Evans, a senior transfer from Georgia, combined for 2.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game career average in her first three collegiate seasons.
- Senior Penn State volleyball athlete Maggie Mendelson will join the Lady Lions at the conclusion of her volleyball season. Mendelson was a two-sport athlete at her previous stop in Nebraska where she averaged 2.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
- Five freshmen round out the 2025-26 roster. Tèa Clèante, Viktoria Ranisavljevic and Rachael Okokoh alll bring a high level of international basketball experience to the Lady Lions. Clèante has played for the French national team for numerous years and Ranisavljevic has played for the Swiss national team since she was 13 and Okokoh has spent a number of seasons with the Canadian national squad. Shayla Smith from Philadelphia arrives in Happy Valley after breaking the all-time scoring record at Universal Audenried Charter, finishing her campaign with 2,666 points. She became the fastest player to reach 1,000 career points, a record previously held by Dawn Staley. Nyla McFadden is the final freshman on the PSU squad, after graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas. She helped her team to back-to-back state championships.
2024-25 IN REVIEW
- Penn State finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 10-19 overall record and a 1-17 Big Ten conference record.
- The Lady Lions concluded last year’s campaign with a loss on the road at Rutgers.
- PSU recorded a win over no. 9 Ohio State on January 18, marking the team’s first win over a top 10 opponent since defeating no. 8 Ohio State in 2012.
- The Lady Lions set a program record for non-conference home wins, spanning over three seasons of 17-straight wins in the Bryce Jordan Center against out-of-conference opponents. Their win over Drexel last season marked the program record.
