UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A wet and cold night in Happy Valley saw Penn State men’s soccer force a 0-0 draw against No. 10 Michigan on Jeffrey Field in the conclusion to the team’s 2025 season. Redshirt-freshman Jonathan Evans made three stops in game, earning the fourth shutout of his career.
Penn State moves to 5-8-4 (1-6-3 B1G) with the result, while the Michigan slides to 11-2-4 (6-2-2 B1G).
HOW IT HAPPENED
First half
Ben Liscum soured Michigan’s first real chance with a perfectly timed tackle at the top of the PSU 18-yard box in the 10th minute.
Freshman Davy Leavey garnered his second yellow card of the season in the 13th minute after arguing a call with the head referee.
Two of Evans’s three saves came less than two minutes apart as Michigan built a pair of possessions in the 24th and 26th minute. The rookie keeper held strong, forcing a 0-0 scoreline headed into the break.
Second half
The rain began to pick up in the second half, making an already damp evening into a soggy one. Michigan used the wet grass to generate quick attacks early, putting two shots on target in the first three minutes of the new frame, but both were blocked by PSU defenders to keep the Maize and Blue off the boards.
Penn State settled in near the 50th minute, force back-and-forth play between the two boxes and began to build up chances.
One of the most promising PSU chances came in the 68th minute, when a cross from Morgan Marshall connected with Freddie Bell inside the visitor’s penalty box. However, the Michigan goalkeeper made a split-second stop to keep Penn State off the scoresheet.
Michigan received a caution in the 70th after a reckless tackle and the Blue and White bench was awarded a yellow in the 87th.
The Penn State defense stood strong as the season wound down, holding the Wolverines to just three shots in the final 15 minutes of action, all off target including two skied boots, earning the draw for the home team.
