CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Brianna Baldi, Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima concluded play at the ITA East Sectional on Saturday on the campus of the University of North Carolina. All three were able to win matches as Baldi won in the round of 32 in singles and Dorner and Uchijima picked up a consolation doubles victory.
The tournament marks the end of a productive 2025 fall season for the team that saw them play in five tournaments, three of which were ITA competitions. The program looks ahead to the spring, where they finished No. 55 a year ago and won 14 matches, the most victories since the 2012-13 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first day opened with round of 32 singles play. Baldi won a gritty match that saw her take down Virginia Tech’s Ozlem Uslu. Both sets were competitive with the Greensboro, North Carolina native earning the 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Uchijima fell in a 6-3, 6-2 result to Duke’s No. 61 Shavit Kimchi in her singles match. In doubles, Uchijima and Dorner dropped to Duke’s Liv Hovde and Kimchi, 6-3, 7-6.
On the second day, Baldi came up short against No. 49 Hovde in round of 16 singles competition in a 6-2, 6-3 decision. In consolation singles, Uchijima dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match against Columbia’s No. 108 Gayathri Krishnan.
On the doubles side, Dorner and Uchijima advanced to the consolation doubles semifinals in a three-set thriller. The senior duo rallied from dropping the first set, 7-6, in dominant fashion. They took the next two sets, 6-1, 10-2, for the victory.
The pair would fall to Virginia’s Katie Rolls and Blair Gill, 7-5, 6-1, in the consolation semifinals.
