Maddie Pitts Wins Pentathlon at Penn Opener to Begin Indoor Season

Pitts won four of five events in the pentathlon.

PHILADELPHIA – Penn State track & field senior Maddie Pitts had a strong start to the indoor season, running away with the pentathlon at the Penn Opener meet on Friday evening.

The reigning Second Team All-American won the meet’s pentathlon for the second year in a row, beating her own mark of 3,944 from a year ago. Pitts won four out of five events while coming in third in the high jump. Her wins came in the 60-meter hurdles (8.63), shot put (41-3.00, 12.57m), the long jump (19-8.00, 5.99m), and the 800-meter (2:18.02). Pitts set meet records in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump, and shot put, as well as her own record in the overall pentathlon event from a season ago.
