UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 62nd edition of Penn State women’s gymnastics is set to begin its 2026 campaign on Sunday, January 11 at 2 p.m. against the Yale Bulldogs in Rec Hall. Penn State is led by eighth year Head Coach Sarah Brown alongside Associate Head Cach Ralph Rosso and Assistant Coach Lynnzee Brown.
The Nittany Lions enter the 2026 season after posting 11 wins in the 2025 season that culminated in the program hosting in NCAA Regionals competition and placed fourth in the region. The roster features 11 returners from the 2025 campaign and six newcomers, five freshman and one transfer.
Included among the returners for Penn State are 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Kalea McElligott and 2024 First Team All-Big 10 honoree Ava Piedrahita. Sophomore phenoms Elizabeth Leary and Dani Latronica were both named as 2026 Big Ten Women’s Gymnasts to Watch and the program was selected eighth in the Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Preseason Coaches’ Poll. In the Women’s Gymnastics Coaches Association Preseason Poll, Penn State was tied for 25th overall with Arizona State.
SERIES HISTORY
In the all-time series, Penn State carries an undefeated 10-0 record against Yale headed into Sunday’s season opener with the last meeting occurring in 2022. During that meet, the Nittany Lions defeated the Bulldogs, 194.775-190.650 with Jessica Johanson contributing a 9.775 on vault, 9.825 on uneven bars and a 9.650 for her floor routine.
