UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s volleyball standout Kennedy Martin was named a CSC first-team Academic All-American on Tuesday. The junior earned the honor for a second-consecutive season.
Martin excelled in the classroom as a labor and human resources major, joining just six other players on the first team. She is one of just two players from the Big Ten to make the first team. Martin is now a two-time first-team Academic All-American, a two-time Academic All-District winner, and a one-time conference academic honoree.
On the court Martin was again one of the best players in the country, earning first-team All-America recognition for a second-consecutive year. Additionally, she was named AVCA All-East Coast Region and was voted first-team All-Big Ten. Martin finished the season ranked second in the nation in points/set (6.22) and third in kills/set (5.42).
Twelve Penn State women’s volleyball players have combined for 19 Academic All-America honors. Martin is the first to earn the award since Haleigh Washington, who received the accolade three times from 2015-17. Martin is the first Penn State women’s volleyball player to make the first team since Katie Slay in 2013.
Current Penn State assistant coach Megan Hodge is also a former recipient of the prestigious academic honor as she made the second team in 2008 and the first team in 2009.
