The Lady Lions face the Ducks on Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State women’s basketball concludes two-game west coast stint against Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Lady Lions (7-13, 0-9 Big Ten) and the Ducks (14-7, 2-6 Big Ten) are set to square off inside Matthew Knight Arena at 5 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State was taken down by no. 25/25 Washington on Wednesday night. The Huskies built an early lead in the first quarter during which they led by as many as 12. The Lady Lions battled back to make it a one-point game at halftime, but a strong third quarter for Washington created too big a deficit for PSU to climb back from.
  • Gracie Merkle led the team offensively for the 11th time this season with her 19th double figure scoring outing. She recorded 19 points on nine-of-14 shooting from the floor to go with eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
  • Kiyomi McMiller was the other double-digit point performer for the Lady Lions with 11 points.
  • Shaelyn Steele matched Merkle’s eight rebounds, good for a career high for the sophomore. She also posted eight points, dished out four assists and compiled two steals.
  • Téa Cléante also produced four assists in addition to nine points.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS

  • Oregon is 14-7, 2-6 Big Ten this season. The Ducks are on a four-game slide with losses to no. 15 Michigan State, no. 11 Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota most recently. They own conference wins over USC and Northwestern.
  • Katie Fiso leads the team on offense, scoring 15.4 points per game. Mia Jacobs (14.4) and Elisa Mevius (12.5) also average double figure scoring.
  • Fiso is 10th in the nation in assists per game (6.8), helping her team to a 24th ranking across the nation (17.7). Fiso is seventh in total assists (142).
  • Last season, Oregon finished 20-12, 10-8 Big Ten. The Ducks earned a win over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament first round and lost to Duke in the second round.

PENN STATE – OREGON SERIES

  • Penn State and Oregon met for the first time in 2024-25.
  • Oregon earned a 63-61 win in Happy Valley.
  • Gabby Elliott had a 26-point outing last season and Alli Campbell (13) and Talayah Walker (10) also reached the double figure scoring mark.

LADY LIONS IN THE RANKS

  • After 20 games, Merkle ranks first in the nation in field goal percentage (74.3) and sixth in field goals (170). She is also fourth in the conference points per game (19.3).
  • McMiller ranks 12th in the nation in field goals (165) and second in field goal attempts (385), ranking fifth and first across the B1G consecutively in those categories. She sits sixth in the conference in points per game (19.0).
  • Murray is second in the Big Ten in three pointers (55) and three pointers per game (2.75).
