Track and Field Finishes Competition at Penn State National Open

Throws group dominates, winning both shot put events

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track & field completed competition on Day two of the Penn State National Open.

The throws crew took center stage with three members moving into the top 10. Ryan Henry had a strong day in the men’s shotput, improving upon his personal best twice, moving into fourth place alone in Penn State’s program top 10 with a 65-0.00 (19.81).

On the women’s side of the shot put, Skye Petrie-Cameron and Sasha Garnett finished first and second in the event while both moving into the top 10 in program history. Petrie-Cameron threw for a personal-best 53-1.75 (16.20), good for seventh in PSU history while Sasha Garnett threw 52-10.75 (16.12) to move into eighth place in program history.

On the track, Kaleb Nastari moved up to eighth in program history in the men’s 1000-meter, finshing third in the event. In the women’s 3000-meter, Charlotte Costich and Lea Hatcher each had top 10 program times. Costich’s 9:07.10 is good for fourth in program history while Hatcher’s 9:09.35 puts her at sixth all-time.

EVENT SUMMARY

To start the day in the men’s 600M, Austin Gallant won the event with a personal best, running a 1:17.02 while Jackson Smith came in third with a 1:19.90. Smith also ran a personal best.

In the jump events, Robert Allen won the men’s high jump with a 6-9.00 (2.06m). In the women’s high jump, Gwen Cudmore came in fourth with a 5-8.0 (1.73).

Back to the track, in the women’s 500m, Macey Shriner and Akpan Abasiono finished second and third in the event. Shriner ran a 1:14.08 while Abasiono ran a 1:15.62. In the men’s 3000-meter, Brendan Flynn came in fourth with an 8:11.61 in his first collegiate 3K.

In the 4x400, the women’s started off with a 3:42.52 by Addyson White, Kylie Jacoutot, Mimi Duffy, and Alexandria North, finishing fourth in the event. On the men’s side, Austin Gallant, Niko Schultz, Matt DeMatteo, and Jake Palermo finished second, running a 3:11.01.
