ROCHESTER, N.Y. – No. 8 Penn State couldn’t find the back of the net falling, 1-0, to RIT in non-conference action at the Gene Polisseni Center on Saturday evening.
The Tigers improve to 11-8-0 on the year while the Nittany Lions fall to 11-6-0 overall with the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT scored the lone goal of the game taking advantage of a blown d zone coverage by the Nittany Lions as Evan Konyen finished off a 2-on-0 atop the goal crease off a feed from Austin Brimmer for the 1-0 edge at 6:28 of the first period.
GOALTENDING
Freshman Josh Fleming (Montreal, Quebec) stopped 20-of-21 shots in the loss dropping to 5-3-0 on the year while his counterpart, Jakub Krbecek, made a season-high 44 saves in the victory moving to 11-6-0 on the year.
NOTES
- Penn State held the commanding 44-21 edge in shots on goal while going 0-for-1 on the man-advantage and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
- The loss is the first for the Nittany Lions in their second semester opener since 2017 as they now stand 9-4-1 in such games all-time.
- RIT secures its first-ever victory over Penn State as the series now stands at 3-1-1 entering Sunday’s series finale.
