White Inks First NWSL Contract with Kansas City Current

Nittany Lion standout begins professional career with one of the nation’s premier NWSL clubs

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s soccer alumna forward Amelia White signed her first professional contract, joining the National Women’s Soccer League’s Kansas City Current following an announcement from the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

I am incredibly excited for Amelia White as she takes this next step in her soccer career. For the past four years, Amelia has been one of the most dynamic attackers in our sport. Her athleticism, paired with her elite ball skills make her a force to be reckoned with. The development that she has shown over her time with us in Happy Valley is tremendous, and I am confident that she will be an outstanding addition to an incredible organization in Kansas City fresh off an NWSL Shield last season.

Over her four seasons in University Park, White made a name for herself as one of the most dangerous attacking threats, both in the Big Ten Conference and Division I as a whole. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native amassed impressive career statistics, including 88 matches played and 53 starts with 4,447 minutes of action on the pitch for the Blue & White. She totaled 11 goals at the collegiate level in addition to 14 assists for a grand total of 36 points during her stint in Happy Valley. For her achievements on the pitch, White secured Second Team All-B1G distinction in 2025, in addition to landing B1G All-Freshman Team accolades in her rookie year. Academically, White received Academic All-Big Ten Conference laurels in every year of her collegiate career, capping her time in the Blue & White off by earning her undergraduate degree at the conclusion of the fall semester.

White is fresh off her most productive statistical campaign at the collegiate level in 2025, setting a single-season career-best mark in points, assists, match-winning goals and minutes played while also setting a career-high mark in matches started with 21. She logged 16 points in the Nittany Lions’ 32nd varsity season split between a career-best six goals and four assists. Three of White’s six goals went in the book as match-winning efforts, highlighted by tallies against West Virginia and Maryland on Jeffrey Field in addition to the match-clincher at Purdue on October 16. In recognition of her successful offensive season, White became PSU’s 58th Second Team All-Big Ten Conference honoree and logged the first United Soccer Coaches All-Region award in her career, securing Fourth Team All-North Region distinction.

The Penn State women’s soccer program boasts a long and storied history of placement in the NWSL, with White becoming the 38th alumna to join the highest level of professional soccer in the United States. She becomes the third Nittany Lion signed by an NWSL club following the discontinuation of the NWSL Draft after the 2024 event that saw a program-record five Penn Staters chosen. White’s signing with the Kansas City Current marks the third consecutive season that at least one Nittany Lion signed with that organization, with White joining former teammates in Ellie (Wheeler) Bravo-Young and Katie Scott.

Under the direction of former United States Women’s National Team manager Vlatko Andonovski, the Kansas City Current welcome White following a dominant 2025 season that saw the club secure its first NWSL Shield in franchise history. The Current, led by back-to-back NWSL Most Valuable Player and 2024 Golden Boot recipient Temwa Chawinga, logged a 65-point season with an eye-popping final record of 21-3-2, boasting a goal differential of plus-36. The next closest goal differential in the league last year was plus-10, set by eventual NWSL Playoff Champion Gotham FC. With White in the fold, Kansas City will look to defend its NWSL Shield while pursuing the franchise’s first postseason title in 2026, with action set to begin on March 13.
