LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Penn State men’s tennis team was defeated by Liberty 6-1 in its match on Sunday. This is the Nittany Lions’ first loss of the season, and the team currently holds a 7-1 record.
Freshman Eyal Shyovitz collected a singles point for the Nittany Lions when he took down Chase Robinson 6-2, 6-3.
Doubles
Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk defeated Emil Matikainen and Shyovitz 6-3.
Benjamin Sparks and David Ekpenyong defeated Marcus Schoeman and Reiya Hattori 7-5.
David Lindsay and Michael Wright had the lead over Siwanat Auytayakul and Carl Roothman, but the match was abandoned at 6-5 as Liberty had already claimed the doubles point.
Singles
In spot one, Wright faced Santiago Arraez, but fell 2-6, 4-6.
Shyovitz played on court six and defeated Robinson 6-2, 6-3.
Schoeman fell to Roothman on court two 5-7, 2-6.
Lindsay played in the fourth spot but was taken down by Ekpenyong 6-1, 1-6, 3-6.
Hattori was defeated by Auytayakul 1-6, 7-5, 8-10.
Matikainen lost the battle on court five against Benjamin Sparks 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.

The Nittany Lions return home for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 14. The team will take on Georgetown at 9 a.m. and Mercyhurst at 2:30 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center.
