Women's Golf Concludes Spring Break at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHN’S ISLAND, S.C.  – The Penn State women's golf team concludes its Spring Break week at the 13th-annual Briar's Creek Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek.

The Nittany Lions have been in the field at each of the previous 12 Briar's Creek Invitationals finishing tied for fourth in 2023 and as high as second in 2014. Penn State is poised for another strong showing at the par-72, 6,152-yard course this week.

The event will begin with 36 continuous holes on Monday following an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start while Tuesday’s final round features an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start with an awards ceremony to follow the conclusion of play.

THE FIELD

  • The host College of Charleston looks to regain its title against 14 additional teams this week headlined by several teams from Power 4 Conferences.
  • Penn State is one of five Big Ten teams as the Nittany Lions are joined down south by Maryland, Iowa, Purdue and Michigan State.
  • NC State, Boston College, Notre Dame, Clemson, SMU and Miami represent the ACC while Georgia represents the SEC and East Carolina and UCF round out the 15-team field.
  • Penn State will be paired with Boston College and Miami for the opening two rounds of play on Monday.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State’s Lineup remains consistent from its last event with freshman Audrey Lam pacing the way after registering her lowest career score relative to par and finishing 2-under, 214, and in a tie for 31st in the 84-player field at the Westbrook Invitational three weeks ago.
  • Lam is joined in the lineup by fellow freshmen Mara King and Lillian Guleserian while sophomores Hannah Rabb and Yaya Jiratthitinun round out the starting five.
  • Jiratthitinun is the lone Nittany Lion with familiarity of the course as she competed in the event last season as a freshman.
  • Sophomore Zeynep Sualp is making her second-straight appearance competing as an individual this week.
  • Lam, Rabb, Jiratthitinun and Guleserian have each competed in all six events so far this season with Lam leading the way with a 72.06 stroke average and a pair of top-10 finishes.
  • Rabb isn’t far behind with a 72.72 stroke average while Jiratthitinun is at 73.11.
  • King returns to the lineup after an illness held her out of the Westbrook Invitational as she is currently third on the team just ahead of Yaya with a 72.92 stroke average.

Penn State will take next week off from competition before closing the month of March at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of Georgia on March 28-30.
