Klosowicz Named Nation’s No. 10 Third Baseman

Junior standout picks up third-straight individual ranking from Softball America in Tuesday’s release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball junior third baseman Brooke Klosowicz added another national distinction to her awards list on Tuesday afternoon, with the third-year Nittany Lion picking up the nation’s No. 10 overall third baseman ranking according to Softball America.

Klosowicz picked up her third individual player ranking from Softball America this season and secured her first individual ranking outside of the Utility/DP standings this season. Klosowicz, a native of Johnsburg, Illinois, boasts one of the strongest offensive resumes in college softball this season while serving as an anchor in the Penn State batting order. The junior standout boasts the strongest batting average on the PSU roster with a .383 clip in the batter’s box, adding 44 hits, 30 runs scored and cracking double-digit home runs for the second year in a row, amassing 11 long balls to date. Klosowicz has moved out of the designated player role in recent weeks and assumed the full-time starting nod at the third-base spot, serving as a headline hitter in the PSU batting order in the process.

Penn State’s junior corner infielder boasts top-20 marks in the Big Ten Conference in total hits, home runs, home runs per game, runs batted in, RBI per game, slugging percentage and total bases. She has also made a considerable mark in the Nittany Lion record book through this point in her collegiate career, with the third-year sensation owning the best career batting average in Penn State program history with a .381 mark. She also stands inside the top 10 in PSU history in doubles with 33, and ranks seventh in school annals with 24 collegiate home runs.

Klosowicz is one of four Big Ten Conference student-athletes to appear in Softball America’s midseason third baseman rankings, with the third-year Penn Staters joining top-ranked Bri Alejandre of UCLA, fourth-ranked Giselle Alvarez of Washington and 11th-ranked Rosie Davis of Oregon on the 15-member list. Florida State’s Jaysoni Beachum appeared second in the midseason rankings, while Arkansas’ Ella McDowell (No. 3) and Virginia Tech’s Jordan Lynch (No. 5) rounded out the top five.

With Klosowicz serving as a key contributor in the Nittany Lion lineup, Penn State prepares for a pivotal in-state rivalry matchup on Tuesday night, March 31, against the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road in Pittsburgh. Action gets underway at 6 p.m. (ET) from Vartabedian Field, with the Blue & White set to make their national television debut on the ACC Network, with streaming available to a worldwide audience of authenticated subscribers via the ESPN app on connected devices.
