Oneacre Tabbed as No. 5 Shortstop in College Softball

Softball America ranks rookie Penn Stater as the No. 5 player in the nation at the shortstop position

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball freshman infielder Allison Oneacre added to her already-decorated trophy cabinet on Wednesday afternoon, with the rookie picking up the No. 5 individual player ranking at the shortstop position according to a release from Softball America.

The rookie infielder has established herself as a breakout star in college softball throughout the early going in 2026, with Oneacre ranking fourth in the Big Ten Conference and 20th nationally in total RBI (46) and 41st nationally in RBI per game (1.29), while ranking third in the Big Ten and 25th across Division I softball with 13 home runs. Her offensive prowess is also highlighted by the 10th-best slugging percentage in the Big Ten with a .844 mark.

Oneacre made history in the opening game of the Rutgers series by becoming the first Nittany Lion in program history to record two multi-homer efforts in their true freshman season. Oneacre also became just the third Nittany Lion of any classification in PSU history to have more than one multiple-homer effort in a single season, joining 2002 alumna Jennifer Tripken and 2013 alumna Cassidy Bell, who both had two multi-homer games in their senior campaigns. The rookie sensation is up to 13 home runs this year to date, good enough for the fourth-most home runs in a single season by any Penn State student-athlete all-time while matching the program’s single-season record for a freshman, set by Chelsea Bisi in 2019. Oneacre also needs just seven RBI to tie and eight to break the program’s single-season RBI record set by Brooke Klosowicz a season ago.

The Alpharetta, Georgia, native is the highest-ranked individual at the shortstop position from the Big Ten Conference. Oneacre is one of three B1G shortstops to appear on the 15-member list, joining Indiana’s Alex Cooper in the No. 7 position, as well as UCLA’s Aleena Garcia at the No. 8 spot. Oneacre fell four spots behind the top position, with Florida State’s Isa Torres, Oklahoma’s Gabbie Garcia, Florida’s Kenleigh Cahalan and Arkansas’ Atalyia Rijo appearing in the top four slots.

With Oneacre heavily contributing to the Nittany Lion lineup, Penn State prepares for its return to Nittany Lion Softball Park & Beard Field this Friday through Sunday, April 3 through 5, as the Blue & White welcome the Big Ten Conference rival Maryland Terrapins to Happy Valley for a three-game series. First pitches are slated for 5, 2 and 1 p.m. (ET), respectively, with all three games available for streaming to a worldwide audience of authenticated subscribers via B1G+ and the B1G+ app on connected devices.
