No. 19 Penn State Falls in Overtime to No. 6 Johns Hopkins

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions (11-5, 3-4 Big Ten) fell to No. 6 Johns Hopkins (13-3, 6-2), on Thursday evening in Panzer Stadium for the team’s White Out game on Big Ten Network.

KEY PERFORMANCES 

FIRST QUARTER | PSU 2 – JHU 1

Penn State secured the opening possession, but both defenses held firm for the first seven minutes of the contest. A ground ball from Anné and a green card on Johns Hopkins led to Wainman scoring the Nittany Lions’ first goal of the game with Ho on the assist. Minutes later, after a defensive struggle, Johns Hopkins scored with four minutes left to tie it up. With one minute left, Wainman notched her second goal of the game with Radin on the assist to close out the first frame.

SECOND QUARTER | PSU 5 – JHU 4

Johns Hopkins scored the first goal of the second frame. Penn State then took over, securing the draw control and ultimately led to Rezza netting a goal to put Penn State back in the lead. The Blue Jays wasted no time, scoring right after the draw control. Penn State then secured the draw control, and Anna Salerno scored after a beautiful behind-the-back pass from Allen. Rezza struck again after Driver caused a turnover on the draw control with Allen dishing out the assist. Johns Hopkins finished off the second frame with a goal.

THIRD QUARTER | PSU 7 – JHU 6

Penn State won the opening draw, but Johns Hopkins was able to score, tying up the game. After another defensive bout MacKinney netted one in the back of the cafe with Radin passing her open to put the Nittany Lions back in the lead. Penn State scored again courtesy of Ho and an assist by MacKinney. Johns Hopkins gained a goal with less than a minute out to finish the frame.           

FOURTH QUARTER | PSU 9 – JHU 9

Johns Hopkins scored the first goal of the fourth frame to tie up the contest, but Radin recorded a free-position goal on a woman-up opportunity. MacKinney secured her second goal of the night  with Ho being credited for the assist. Johns Hopkins closed out the final frame with two back-to-back goals, marking the end of the fourth frame 9-9.

OVERTIME | PSU 9 – JHU 10

Penn State won the first draw control of the fifth frame, but soon lost control in a turnover and the Blue Jays scored the golden goal

  • Radin needs three more assists to secure the Penn State single-season assists record
