Adrianna Baggetta Named Top 25 Finalist for National Assistant Coach of the Year

The newly promoted associate head coach guided the Penn State offense to another record-setting season in 2026

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State softball associate head coach Adrianna Baggetta was named a top 25 finalist for D1Softball’s National Assistant Coach of the Year award on Wednesday morning. The winner of the award will be announced on August 31.

Baggetta enters her fourth year in Happy Valley, first with the associate head coach title, after continuing to elevate the Penn State offense in three seasons as the team’s hitting coach. Under her direction, the Nittany Lions became one of the top offenses in the nation while setting multiple program records in each season. Baggetta has helped the program reach new heights with an NCAA Tournament berth in 2024, two 30-win seasons and the longest streak of double-digit Big Ten win totals in program history.

In the 2026 campaign, the Blue & White offense shattered program highs in runs scored (377), runs per game (6.98), runs batted in (336), walks (274) and home runs (84). Additionally, Penn State improved its on-base percentage from .408 in 2025 to .424 a season ago.

The Nittany Lions also produced the third-highest team batting average in school history at .301 while their 83 doubles were the third-most in a season by a Penn State squad. The Blue & White’s walk total reached as high as No. 1 in the country before finishing seventh in the nation with 274 free passes. PSU also finished inside the top 25 nationally in home runs, runs per game and on-base percentage.

The PSU lineup featured multiple individual stars in 2026 with freshman Allison Oneacre posting one of the greatest rookie seasons in Penn State softball history. She led Penn State in batting average (.367), hits (58), doubles (14), home runs (18), RBI (61), slugging percentage (.797) and on-base percentage (.493). The Alpharetta, Georgia native earned unanimous Freshman All-America status alongside First Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Freshman Team and Second Team NFCA All-Northeast Region honors.

Joining Oneacre with postseason honors was freshman Breanna Hanik who garnered Second Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team and Second Team All-Region recognition. Junior Brooke Klosowicz earned First Team NFCA All-Northeast Region and Second Team All-Big Ten accolades while sophomore Natalie Lieto rounded out Penn State's postseason honors with a Third Team NFCA All-Northeast Region distinction, showcasing the depth of a Penn State lineup that has set new standards in all three years under Bagetta’s guidance.

Since arriving ahead of the 2024 season, Baggetta and the Penn State softball staff developed one Big Ten Freshman of the Year, two Freshman All-Americans, 11 NFCA All-Region selections, 12 All-Big Ten honorees and three Big Ten All-Freshman Team selections.
