UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women’s cross country team finished second overall in the 6K, while the men’s team placed third in the 5.2-mile race at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday morning at the Blue and White Golf Courses.
WOMEN’S 6K RACE
The women’s team finished with 36 points, placing all five scorers in the top 11 and finishing just four points behind first-place Syracuse (32). First-year Vivian Kipruto produced another strong showing leading the Nittany Lions with a fourth-place finish in 20:46.8. Graduate student Katie Dallas followed closely behind, placing fifth in 20:49.2. Sophomore Caroline Tribett crossed the line in seventh at 20:58.4, while first-year Bailey Espinosa placed ninth in 21:00.5 in her collegiate cross country debut. First-year Reese Miller rounded out Penn State’s five scorers with an 11th-place finish in 21:05.5.

MEN’S 5.2 MILE RACE
The men finished third overall in the 5.2-mile race with 94 points. Senior Nick Sloff led the Nittany Lions with a 15th-place finish, clocking 25:59.0, while sophomore Isaac Oppermann followed in 17th at 26:12.2. Senior Logan Strawser crossed the line in 22nd with a time of 26:18.8, and sophomore Michael Braun placed 24th in 26:22.8. Sophomore Adam Kingston rounded out Penn State’s five scorers, finishing 32nd in 26:38.2.

Penn State women will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, competing in the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, N.J. at 11:00 a.m. while the men will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2 for the Paul Short Run hosted at Lehigh University at 11:00 a.m.
