A dedicated worker at practice and in the weight room, Tom Golarz should be among several candidates vying for time in the defensive end rotation this fall. Golarz began 2008 at a new position, fullback. But soon after the season began, he was shifted back to defensive end, where he has spent most of his career. The former Bloomington North HS standout grew up around Big Ten football, with two older brothers that played at Northwestern.
2008 Junior Season
Golarz saw action in 11 games, playing on special teams and the defensive line. He recorded one tackle in the 49-18 win over Michigan State to help the Nittany Lions clinch the Big Ten title. Golarz saw action on 83 snaps, topped by 18 in the 48-7 win at Wisconsin.
2007 Sophomore Season
Golarz played in seven games on defense and special teams, making two tackles, one each against Buffalo and at Temple. He was on the field for 49 snaps.
2006 Freshman Season

High School
Golarz was a three-year starter on both sides of the ball at Bloomington North HS. He played linebacker and offensive guard for Coach John Slinkard. He was named junior all-state after making 77 tackles, including 17 tackles for losses and two sacks.
Personal
Full name is Thomas John Golarz. Two older brothers, Mike and Scott, were lettermen on the Northwestern University football team in the late 1980s and early `90s. Golarz is an economics major. Born November 21, 1986.
