The fifth-year senior has put forth tremendous effort in the classroom, off the field and in his preparations as a Nittany Lion quarterback. He has made significant progress on the practice field and in the weight room and will be ready to compete for more playing time. A Dean[apos]s List student, McGregor possesses a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average and is on schedule to graduate in December with degrees in English and journalism. He is a probable Academic All-Big Ten honoree this fall. In 2011, he was selected one of five students from across the nation to receive a $5,000 scholarship through a national essay competition sponsored by the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation. McGregor[apos]s essay was about Joe Paterno, also a quarterback during his career at Brown University. During the 2011 fall semester, McGregor was part of a team of students that completed an independent study and wrote stories for The Centre Daily Times. Immediately after Penn State[apos]s Jan. 2 bowl game, McGregor joined another College of Communications student at the BCS National Championship game as part of a partnership with Penn State[apos]s John Curley Center for Sports Journalism. The duo wrote stories about the teams and activities surrounding the title game for BCSfootball.org. During the midst of 2012 winter strength and conditioning workouts, McGregor was selected to dance in THON, spending 46 consecutive hours on his feet in mid-February. The former Central Cambria High School standout helped secure a record total of $10.69 million to support the Four Diamonds Fund and the pediatric cancer patients, families and researchers it supports.
