Spring 2014: Young did not see any action in singles this spring, but he went 16-2 in doubles, combining mostly with Michael Reilly... The duo went 15-2 in dual matches, including a 3-0 mark against ranked opponents while competing at No. 2 doubles. They were ranked 54th in the ITA Poll from March 25 to April 8... Reilly and Young won their first 12 matches to start the year, including ranked wins against No. 47 South Florida[apos]s Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz, ranked 69th, and No. 44 Michigan[apos]s Shaun Bernstein and Kevin Wong, ranked 52nd... During that streak, they also had wins against Cleveland State, Bucknell, No. 33 VCU, Penn, No. 1 Ohio State, No. 50 Princeton, Southern Miss, No. 28 Northwestern, No. 70 Wisconsin and No. 51 Minnesota... Young also combined with Ramy Labna for a win against Lehigh... After dropping matches at No. 36 Purdue and No. 69 Indiana, Reilly and Young bounced back with wins against No. 63 Nebraska, No. 43 Michigan and No. 4 Virginia... The duo defeated Virginia[apos]s #61 Alex Domijan and Harrison Richmond to clinch the doubles point for Penn State in their NCAA Second Round match... Reilly and Young clinched the doubles point six times this spring for the Nittany Lions.
Fall 2013: Went 1-5 in singles and 2-2 in doubles this fall... Young competed at the UVa Fall Classic, where he defeated James Madison[apos]s Niels Kathal(6-3, 6-1). Young reached the consolation semifinal in the Red Draw... Young also played two matches at the ITA Atlantic Regional... Young paired up with David Kohan at the UVa Fall Classic in the White Doubles Draw, where they reached the final. They knocked off Radford[apos]s Bharani Sankar and Roman Ilchev(8-0) in their first round match. They followed that up with an 8-5 victory over George Mason[apos]s Conor Moran and Aaron Capitel in the semifinal. In the draw final, the duo fell 8-5 to College of Charleston[apos]s Stephen Hardy and Josh Record... Kohan and Young also combined at the ITA Atlantic Regional.
2012-13 Season (Junior): Young won 11 matches, including five dual victories, during his junior campaign... Combined with four different partners to win ten doubles matches... Went 6-8 in the fall, with two wins each at the UVa Fall Classic and Tennessee Invitational, as well as wins at the Princeton Invitational and ITA Atlantic Regional... Knocked off Norfolk State[apos]s Dimitry Zyhmantovich(6-4, 6-0) and Morgan State[apos]s Duwane Thomas(6-0, 6-0) at the UVa Fall Classic... Defeated Chattanooga[apos]s Jackson Tresnan (6-4, 5-7, 6-3) and Western Michigan[apos]s Stephen Payne(6-2, 6-1) at the Tennessee Invitational... Earned victories over George Washington[apos]s Viktor Svensson(7-5, 6-3) at the ITA Atlantic Regional and Fairleigh Dickinson[apos]s Peter Skvarka (6-2, 6-3) at the Princeton Invitational... Young and Guanhua Chen paired up in wins at the UVa Fall Classic, Tennnessee Invitational, ITA Atlantic Regional, and the Big Ten Indoor Tournament. The duo knocked off Michigan State[apos]s Will Davis and Doug Zade(8-4) at the Big Ten Indoor Tournament... Started the non-conference slate with five straight wins. In his first match of the spring, Young defeated Cleveland State[apos]s Jay Jones 6-2, 6-2. He followed up the next weekend with wins against #59 New Mexico[apos]s Mads Hegelund(6-2, 6-2) and #48 Alabama[apos]s David Vieyra(6-4, 2-6, 6-2). The win against New Mexico helped the Nittany Lions to claim the upset bid. Young also earned wins against Penn[apos]s Vim De Alwis(6-4, 6-4) and Lehigh[apos]s Ben Gilman(3-6, 6-2, 6-2)... Young competed in the fifth and six spots during Big Ten play... Combined with Chen for two wins in the spring, knocking off Cleveland State[apos]s Jones and Joe VanMeter(8-7) and New Mexico[apos]s James Hignett and Andrew Van der Vyver(8-4)... Paired with Roman Trkulja for Big Ten doubles wins against Indiana, Minnesota, and #34 Northwestern.
2011-12 Season (Sophomore): Academic All-Big Ten in 2012... Young went 3-6 in singles and 3-5 in doubles during the spring... He also went 4-5 in singles and 2-5 in doubles during the fall period... Young started the fall with a 2-1 finish at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational with victories over Binghamton[apos]s Jonathan Hefetz(6-0, 5-7, 6-2) and Princeton[apos]s Zack McCourt(6-4, 6-3)... Went 1-2 at the UVa Fall Classic. He also combined to go 2-1 in doubles with Taylor Cohen as they fell to VCU98-5) before defeating teams from James Madison(8-3) and Old Dominion(8-4)... Young went 1-1 at the ITA Regional Championships, defeating Virginia Tech[apos]s Joe Pine(6-4, 6-4)... Qualified for the Big Ten Indoor Championships, but went 0-2... Went 2-1 in non-conference singles, with wins against Lehigh and Bloomsburg... Won non-conference doubles matches against Bloomsburg, Buffalo, and Bucknell while combining with Hasyn, Welnetz, and Hanzlik... Defeated Iowa[apos]s Tom Mrozlewicz 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 during Big Ten play.
2010-11 Season (Freshman): Went 7-13 in spring 2010-11 singles action...Posted a 2-7 record in spring 2010-11 doubles competition...Arrived on campus at the start of the Spring 2011 semester and posted a victory over Army[apos]s Tripp Johnson (7-5, 6-4) in his second collegiate singles match...Defeated Max Haskin of No. 64 Cornell (6-2, 6-3) on Feb. 12...Posted an impressive victory over South Florida[apos]s Yannick Yoshizawa (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) March 11...Posted consecutive doubles victories over Gregg Cohenca and Mark Malloy of Bucknell (8-3) on Feb. 13 and March 20 against Bloomsburg[apos]s[apos] Jeff Nuhfer and Jack McClurkin, 8-1.
Junior Career: Posted a career-high junior world ranking of #138 according to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) ... Attained a high ranking of #88 in Australian men[apos]s rankings ... Earned a career record of 38-35 on the ITF junior circuit ... Participated in junior qualifying draws of the Australian Open.
