Summer 2007: Sean got a warm-up for U.S. Nationals by swimming in the 50 and 100 freestyle at the Charlotte Ultraswim, placing 11th in the 100. He then swam in the 50 and 100 freestyle at U.S. Nationals, finishing 37th in the 100 free and also was a part of the 16th place 400 free relay team at U.S. Nationals.
2006-07: Sean made his first career appearance at NCAA championships, where he swam as part of all three Penn State relay teams that swam there, the 200 free, 400 free, and 400 medley relay. Sean is a two-time scorer at Big Ten[apos]s in both the 50 free and 100 free after he scored points in the 100 free and was a part of all five relay teams that scored points. He also swam NCAA `B[apos] times in all six of those aforementioned events. The South African will be competing for a spot on the South African Olympic team next summer as he has qualified for South African Olympic trials. He swam the fastest time of his career in the 100 free at Big Ten[apos]s and had the second fastest time of the year on the team in both the 100 and 200 free and the third fastest in the 50 free. He had three first place finishes on the season, eight second place finishes and five third places.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Finished third in the 50 free, fourth in the 100 free and was on the second place 400 free relay team at the season-opening meet at West Virginia....Tied for eighth in the 50 free, finished fifth in the 100 free and was a part of the third place 200 free, the fourth place 400 free, the third place 400 medley and the eighth place 200 medley relay teams at the Clemson/Virginia/Virginia Tech/Penn State quad-meet....Placed fifth in the 100 free and was a part of the second place 200 free, third place 200 medley and sixth place 400 medley relay teams at the Purdue Duals....Gained points for Penn State in the 50 free (15th place), 100 free (7th place), which included his three fastest times of the year in the 100 free, and as part of the 400 free (2nd place), 800 free (4th place) and 400 medley (3rd place) relay teams at the Bell Grand Prix....Won the 100 free and was on the second place 200 medley relay team at the dual meet vs. West Chester....Came in second in the 50 free and was a part of the first place 400 free relay team at the dual meet vs. Rutgers....Finished fourth in the 100 free, ninth in the 50 free, 13th in the 200 free and was on four out of five relays teams including the 200 free (2nd place), 400 free (1st place), 200 medley (2nd place) and 400 medley (2nd place) at the Shamrock Invitational....Finished 15th in the 100 free and was on the 200 free (8th place), 400 free (3rd place), 800 free (5th place), 200 medley (5th place) and 400 medley (5th place) relay teams that all picked up points at Big Ten Championships.
2005-06: Sean swam in mainly short distance freestyle events as well as on several freestyle and medley relay teams. He also saw a little bit of time in the 100 backstroke. At the Big Ten Championships, he picked up points for Penn State in the 50 free (14th place), 100 free (12th place) and as a member of the 200 and 400 free relay teams that both finished in eighth place. He swam his second fastest career time in the 50 free at the Big Ten Championships and his three fastest career times in the 100 free at the end of the year. On the year, he won two individual races and was a part of an amazing 11 first place relay teams, including four first place relay finishes at a single meet, the Shamrock Invitational.

2004-05: Swanepoel helped the 400 free relay team to wins at Virginia and the Missouri/Iowa Dual meet as well as to a first place finishes in the 200 free relay at St. Bonaventure and West Chester. His top individual performance was an eighth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 20.59 at the Big Ten championships.
High School: Swanepoel competed on the South African National Teams in 2003 and 2004. On the Junior team in 2003, he placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.20. In 2004, he placed eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.20 at the Senior Nationals.
Personal: Sean Swanepoel was born on April 6, 1984. His parents are Andre and Charmaine Swanepoel and he has two sisters, one older and one younger. Sean is majoring in engineering.
