2006-07: Jocelyn showed gradual improvement throughout her freshman season as she competed in seven meets for the Nittany Lions. Illustrating her improvement from the beginning to the end of the year, she logged her highest score of the year on the three-meter springboard and her second-highest on the one-meter at her second-to-last meet of the year. Her best finishes of the year were fourth place finishes in both the one and three-meter event in the dual meet vs. West Chester, in which she also scored her highest tally of the year on the one-meter.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Made her collegiate debut at the Clemson/Virginia/Virginia Tech/Penn State quad-meet as she finished 14th in the one-meter and 11th in the three-meter....Improved her score and finish in the one-meter at the Purdue Duals with a 10th place finish....Picked up points for Penn State with fourth place finishes in both the one and three-meter events in the dual meet vs. West Chester....Also earned PSU points with fifth place finishes in both events at the dual meet vs. Ohio State....Placed 11th in both the one and three-meter events at the Shamrock Invitational, earning her third-highest score of the year in the three-meter.
High School: Jocelyn participated in diving as well as softball at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn. She graduated with high honors and was also a CAPT Master and a Scholar Athlete for girls swimming and diving in `04-05. She was a varsity starter for all four years. As a freshman, she finished 12th at the state open and then placed 10th in the state open as a junior. As a senior, she went undefeated during the season and then finished second at the county championships and sixth at the state open.
Personal: Jocelyn was born on November 27, 1987 in Norwalk, Conn. She is the daughter of Randall and Lauriston Avery. She has an older brother, Chris, and a younger sister, Kathryn. Her relatives, George and Janice Avery also attended Penn State. She is majoring in English/journalism at Penn State. She lists singing in the shower as a hobby.
