2008-2009 SEASON - JUNIOR: Had a four-match singles win streak midseason, defeating opponents from Lehigh (Ariela Cohen), then-No. 64 Minnesota (Tijana Koprivica), then-No. 63 Iowa (Alexis Dorr) and Michigan State (Elena Ivanova)... straight set 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dorr helped Lions upset conference rival Iowa... Was 8-14 overall in dual matches including 4 wins on the No. 2 court... Won eight No. 2 doubles matches during the spring with partner Denisa Zobeideh, including an 8-3 victory over Hawkeyes Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Kelcie Klockenga of then No. 63 Iowa.
2007-08 SEASON - SOPHOMORE: Finished the season 14-13 overall...Went 3-4 in the fall with convincing wins over opponents from Washington State (Bianca Selaru), Dartmouth (Maggie Suydam) and Cornell (Shayna Miller)...Opened spring play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Bucknell[apos]s Dara Dwoljewski...Secured Penn State[apos]s victory over Oklahoma State on the team[apos]s spring break trip to the Midwest with a win over Cowgirl Maryna Tkachenko (7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 7-6 (7-4))...Earned five wins against opponents from ranked teams...Went 6-3 in the Big Ten...Won seven of her last 10 matches...Played mostly at the No. 5 spot going 8-5, but also appeared at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots going 1-0 and 2-1, respectively.
2006-07 SEASON - FRESHMAN: Had a strong freshman year with a 20-16 overall record...Finished with a 4-6 overall record in the fall...Had a come from behind three-set 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory against Furman (Christin Thompson)...Claimed the Flight D singles title at the Maryland Invitational...Finished with a 15-11 record in spring dual matches...Played mostly in the No. 6 position...Went 6-4 against Big Ten foes...From the beginning of March, until mid-April, won six in a row and 10-of-11, including three consecutive three-set wins against Marshall (Jeanne Schwartz), Middle Tennessee State (Pooja Kammireddi) and Wisconsin (Kim Roberts)... Earned a point with a three-set victory against #6 Minnesota[apos]s Karina Chairelli...Earned point with a three-set win against Michigan State[apos]s Ana Milosavljevic in the Big Ten Tournament...Went 15-10 in doubles play...9-4 record when paired with Dorothy Dohanics...The pair won six in a row at one point, including a 9-7 victory over Karina Chairelli/Danielle Mousseau of #6 Minnesota and an 8-6 victory over Elizabeth Exon/Allie Shafner of #30 Michigan...Other partners were Sasha Abraham (4-2), Katelyn BeVard (1-1) and Lauren Holzberg (1-1).
JUNIOR CAREER: McCarthy was ranked as high as second in the USTA[apos]s New England region 18s and was at one point the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Connecticut...Ranked as high as 113th on the USTA[apos]s national 18s chart and peaked in the 29th position on the national doubles list...2004 CIAC Player of the Year and 2004 Hartford Courant Player of the Year...2004 Connecticut State Champion and also posted a perfect 20-0 record...Won several prestigious titles during her junior career, including the 2004 16s National Open title and the 2005 18s Southern Open doubles championship... Member of the National Honor Society and is a Connecticut Scholar.
