As a continuous asset to the team, Halford returns to Happy Valley for his sixth year as he serves as the Nittany Lions assistant coach. Halford played an instrumental role in aiding Penn State to three CHA Regular Season titles, two CHA Tournament titles, and its two NCAA tournament appearances. Through his coaching, he's aided in Josie Bothun's CHA Goaltender of the Year award in 2020-21 and has coached 17 CHA Goaltender of the Month award winners. In two of his five seasons, Halford has placed a Penn State goalie on the All-CHA First Team. He's aided in have at least one goaltender of the month honoree in all six seasons he has been at Penn State. In the 2023-24, all three of Penn State's goalies coached by Halford each captured CHA Goaltender of the Week honors which was the only school to do so.
Halford also helped develop Chantal Burke to become a National Goaltender of the Year finalist in the 2019-20 season after she became the first Nittany Lion to win three CHA monthly awards in a single season. Halford's goalies at Penn State have joined a combined GAA of 1.82 and .923 save percentage.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Halford spent time in five different NHL organizations over the course of his three-year pro career, which produced countless experiences that he draws from as he's worked to develop the next generation of goaltenders.
Prior to his professional career, Halford graduated from Princeton University, concluding a four-year career that included an ECAC title and NCAA Tournament Berth. Prior to Princeton, Halford attended Albany Academy (NEPSAC), before moving on to the EJHL (now the NCDC) where he led the league in save percentage and set numerous franchise records.
