Guy VanArsdale begins his fifth year with the Nittany Lions. He brings over 20 years of coaching experience including 15 years as a head coach (12 years Rochester Institute of Technology and three years Rochester Rattlers of the MLL).
Prior to joining the Penn State lacrosse program, VanArsdale was an assistant coach at Notre Dame for one year. While at RIT, VanArsdale compiled a 112-54 record and led the Tigers to five NCAA appearances including the semifinals in 1999. He was named conference Coach of the Year three times and coached 45 All-Americans during his tenure with RIT.
VanArsdale was named the inaugural head coach of the Rochester Rattlers in 2001 and promptly led the team to semifinals in that year. While with the Rattlers, he coached some of the games top players including Casey and Ryan Powell, Kevin Cassese and Brian Dougherty. While attending Hobart College, VanArsdale was a starter on four NCAA Championship teams (1980-83) as a goalkeeper. He was named the C. Markland Kelly Goalie of the Year three times (1981-83) and was the Division III Player of the Year his senior year. VanArsdale was inducted into the Geneva, N.Y., Sports Hall of Fame in 1992, the Western N.Y. chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Hobart College Hall of Fame in 2000.

Guy and his wife Julia reside in State College. His son, Max, is a member of the squad this year and his daughter, Mya, is a senior at Penn State.
