Courses to Support Student-Athletes
The Morgan Academic Center provides a series of high-impact, student athlete centered courses designed to support first-year students, incoming transfers, and those preparing for life after sport. These courses are intentionally developed, led, and instructed by Morgan Academic Center professional staff who bring expertise in learning support, student development, transition programming, and holistic academic success.
First-Year Student Athletes: BBH 102S Course introduces students to Penn State’s academic expectations, campus resources, personal well-being strategies, and core skills such as time management, study strategies, communication, and navigating dual roles as students and athletes. It helps new student athletes build confidence and create healthy routines.
Transfer Student Athletes: BBH 102S.003 Transfer-specific coursework focuses on acclimating to Penn State’s academic systems, understanding major and degree pathways, aligning previous credits, and developing strategies for balancing a new team environment with upper-level coursework. These sessions provide individualized support to ensure transfers adjust quickly and effectively.
Student Athletes Preparing for Life After Sport: KINES 448 Upper-level course that guides student athletes through identity development, career exploration, leadership skills, professional communication, and post-graduation planning. It helps students reflect on their values, leverage the skills gained through athletics, and confidently transition into graduate education, the workforce, and life beyond competition.
