Dick Jerardi Joins Nittany Lion Basketball Broadcast Team; Philadelphia Daily News Basketball Writer to Serve as Analyst

State College, Pa. - November 10, 2004 - Dick Jerardi, the lead college basketball writer for the Philadelphia Daily News and a national basketball columnist, has joined the Penn State Nittany Lion Basketball radio broadcast team. Jerardi, a Daily News staple since 1985, will serve as the analyst for this year, joining long-time play-by-play man Steve Jones.

Jerardi has been the lead college basketball writer at the Daily News since 1993, having joined the staff in 1985. Nationally recognized as one of the top writers in the nation, Jerardi was the 2001 Pennsylvania Sportswriter of the year and a national award for a story on the Connecticut/Duke National Championship game. Jerardi also covered the entire careers of two National College Players of the Year (in 1990 and 2004).

A Maryland graduate, Jerardi also serves as co-host of a weekly horse racing show on CN8 Mid-Atlantic as well as being a panelist on Daily News Live, a 90-minute daily show on Comcast Sports Net. Spanning the media gauntlet, Jerardi is a weekend host on WIP Radio (610 AM) and its Sports Talk radio show.

Well versed in all sports, Jerardi is also a nationally known horse racing writer. He has served in that capacity at the Daily News since 1985 and has covered every Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup Race since 1987. Jerardi has won several awards for best Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup stories. Jerardi serves as a member of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Board of Directors. He is married (wife Karen) and has two sons (Brian, 22, and Michael, 18).

Over 50 radio stations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York will carry Nittany Lion Basketball games to fans this season. The broadcasts begin 30 minutes before tip-off with "The Ed DeChellis Pregame Show," a 15-minute conversation with the head coach of the Lions. The broadcasts conclude with "Nittany Lion Wrap-up" featuring locker room interviews.

"The Nittany Lion Hotline," a call-in show hosted by Jones and broadcast statewide, airs each Thursday from September through March. During the basketball season, Coach DeChellis takes calls from listeners from 6:05 to 7 p.m. "The Nittany Lion Hotline" and the game broadcasts also can be heard via Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics' website: www.GoPSUsports.com. The Penn State Sports Network is syndicated by Clear Channel Communications of San Antonio, Texas. The executive producer is Jeff Tarman.

Jerardi joins Jones for his debut this Sunday when DeChellis will guide his troop into its season-opener vs. Illinois State. The 6:30 p.m. game is Penn State's opener in the 2004 BCA Classic, played in Milwaukee, Wis. The BCA Classic continues with games on Monday and Tuesday.
