UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 9, 2006 - The Penn State men's swimming and diving team will head to West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend for a two-day meet that will feature five teams from around the country. In addition to the Nittany Lions and host Purdue, Georgia, Utah and Louisville will also be at the meet.

The Nittany Lions will compete in four separate dual meets against each of the other four teams at the meet. Penn State will be in for some tough competition as all four of the other teams scored points at last year's NCAA meet. Georgia placed ninth while Purdue was 16th. Utah finished 26th and Louisville was fifth. The Nittany Lions finished 49th at NCAA's last year with two points.

The last meet for the full men's team was two weekends ago in Virginia. In that meet, Pat Schirk (Pottstown, Pa.) led the team with two first place finishes as he swept both backstroke events. Tim Williams (North Bend, Ohio) also had a strong meet as he placed second in the 400 IM, fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 200 fly.

Last weekend, eight members of the men's team, all freshmen or sophomores, swam in the Big Cat Invitational. Freshman Andrew Criner turned in an overall strong weekend as he finished third in the 100 free, second in both the 100 and 200 back, and third in the 50 free.
