FIRST ROUND: No. 4 Penn State vs. No. 5 Northwestern

GAME OVER: PENN STATE 2, NORTHWESTERN 1. Omekanda scores game winner, his fifth of the season. Assisted by Reihner and Machi. Indiana up next for the Lions, tomorrow at 5 p.m.

DOUBLE OVERTIME: If no team scores in the next ten minutes, the game will be decided by penalty kicks.

98th minute: Taylor took out the legs of NU??s David Roth who broke away for a one-on-one opportunity.

94th minute: Northwestern almost ended the game. Alvarez shot from 8 yards out after cross from David Roth but Taylor kicked it away, hockey goalkeeper-style.

92nd minute: A bizarre scene. NU??s Gerardo Alvarez went down with cramps and Penn State??s Markku Viitanen stopped to stretch him out. Good sportsmanship.

91st minute: Yellow card on Northwestern's Mark Blades.

OVERTIME: PENN STATE 1, NORTHWESTERN 1. Penn State is 0-1-2 in overtime games this season. Northwestern is 1-1-0.

90th minute: Yellow card on Jeff Chambers.

86th minute: NU had a breakaway, giving Brad North a one-on-one chance to score but his shot was weak and Taylor scooped it up.

82nd minute: PENN STATE 1, NORTHWESTERN 1. Perseverance paid off. David Gray served the ball into the box to Ryan Badaracco who walled off a defender and put it in net from 3 yards out. The goal was the first of his career.

78th minute: Andy Machi, making his 10th appearance of the season, controlled a defensive rebound and slid a shot to the wide side of the goal but the NU keeper got to it in time.

75th minute: Penn State is really putting offensive pressure on now. Costigliola and Wentzel got shots off within the box but both were blocked by the NU defense.

72nd minute: NU??s Geoff Fallon launched a shot from 30 yards out that Taylor let slipped through his hands but he recovered and caught it without going over the goal line.

63rd minute: Omekanda crossed a pass from the far left wing, attempting to center, but NU goalkeeper snagged the pass in the air.

59th minute: Omekanda had a breakaway and was fouled hard from behind, earning PSU a free kick from 30 yards away. Chambers got it to MacNeill but his header was off target and the ball was cleared.

55nd minute: Omekanda crossed a pass to Martini waiting in the box, but an NU defender dragged him down. No call from the official.

SECOND HALF PENN STATE STARTERS: Taylor, Gray, Viitanen, Martini, Chambers, Omekanda, Costigliola, Reihner, MacNeill, Badaracco, Germani

HALFTIME: NORTHWESTERN 1, PENN STATE 0. Penn State controlled the tempo early in the game but a defensive breakdown led to the Northwestern goal. The Lions are 1-6-1 in games in which they trail at halftime this season. Penn State outshot Northwestern 8-4 in the first half. Simon Omekanda tops the team with three shots.

42nd minute: Off a free kick from 22 yards out, Viitanen got a shot through the defense but it went directly to NU goalkeeper.

37th minute: Penn State again nearly knotted the game up. Badaracco served a long pass to a streaking Omekanda but NU goalkeeper came out and picked up the ball before he could get to it and get a shot off.

NOTE: Chris Germani, Grady Renfrow, and Vincent Salvatico have subbed in thus far for Penn State.

28th minute: Penn State nearly tied it up. Viitanen crossed to Omekanda who shot just wide.

25th minute: NORTHWESTERN 1, PENN STATE O. Brad North scored from directly in front of net, eight yards out. Assist to Mark Blades.

20th minute: Best scoring chance for either team thus far. NU??s Alvarez fired one-timer from 8 yards out. Save by Taylor.

12th minute: NU had ball deep in PSU zone but crossing pass was intercepted and cleared by MacNeill.

10th minute: Northwestern had one-on-one scoring chance but was called offsides.

NOTE: This is Penn State??s 18th different starting line-up in 19 games this season.

3rd minute: Martini shot high and wide from 20 yards out.

1:00: Penn State had an early opportunity. Reihner took ball to corner and crossed to Omekanda but the pass was too hard and NU goalkeeper hauled it in.
