UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 27, 2007 - Three members of the Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head to Piscataway, N.J. this weekend to compete at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships that will be hosted by Rutgers. There are five different zone diving championships around the country and a set number of divers from each zone will qualify for the men's and women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships later in March.
The Zone A Diving Championships will be held Friday-Sunday, March 2-4. Penn State's three-diver contingent includes Mike Alderman (Arlington, Va.) from the men's team and Courtney Adlam (Ambler, Pa.) and Kimberlee Peifer (Camp Hill, Pa.) from the women's team. All three attained zone qualifying scores during the season to qualify for the meet.
Alderman will be making his fourth career appearance at the meet. He qualified for the NCAA Championships as a freshman. He is coming off a third place finish on the one-meter springboard at the Big Ten Championships. He also finished seventh on the three-meter board. He scored his second-highest score of the year on the one-meter in the finals. Last year, he won the one-meter event at Big Ten's.
Adlam will be making her second appearance at the zone meet. As a freshman last year, she finished ninth in the one-meter at the meet that was held in Annapolis, Md.

Peifer has been diving extremely well lately, as she finished 12th on the three-meter board at Big Ten's to pick up points for Penn State and finished just one spot out of the scoring in the one-meter, placing 17th. This followed her performance at the Shamrock Invitational, the last meet of the regular season, where she finished third on both boards. Peifer will be making her first appearance at the zone meet as she in just her second season on the diving team after moving over from the track and field team beginning last year.
Penn State will compete at the meet only on Friday and Saturday, as that is when the springboard competitions are contested. The platform competition, which Penn State does not compete in, will be held on Sunday.
