Piscataway, N.J. ; March 2, 2007 ?C Mike Alderman (Arlington, Va.) captured first place in the one-meter springboard diving event at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships to clinch an automatic spot in the NCAA Championships in two weeks. Alderman scored a combined 687.70 in the prelims and finals and came from behind in the finals to win the event after being second after the prelims.
On the women??s side, Courtney Adlam (Ambler, Pa.) finished third in the three-meter springboard event with a combined score of 547.65. Depending on what happens tomorrow on the one-meter board for the women, Adlam still has a shot to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships based on her performance on the three-meter. She can still automatically qualify on the one-meter.
Alderman, who finished third on the one-meter board at the Big Ten Championships this year a year after winning it all at the conference meet, scored a 336.30 to finish second in the prelims. He trailed Alex Volovetski of Pittsburgh by 11.15 points after the prelims. He then put up a 351.40 score in the finals to overcome the deficit and top Volovetski by a whopping 53.60 points as Volovetski finished second with a score of 634.10. Pitt??s Jeremy Stultz finished third at 627.5.

In the prelims for the women??s three-meter, Adlam finished fifth with 259.55 points. She improved her finals score to 288.1 to pass two other divers and finish third, 31.55 points behind second place Kate Haynes of Drexel. Alida DiPlacido of Syracuse won the event with a runaway score of 639.35.
Kimberlee Peifer (Camp Hill, Pa.) also competed at the Zone A meet and finished a respectable seventh place out of 28 total divers. She also improved her score in the finals from the prelims. She was in 11th place after scoring a 237.85 in the prelims but moved up to seventh with a finals score of 265.65 to finish with a combined score of 503.25.
Action gets underway tomorrow at noon with the men??s three-meter and the women??s one-meter scheduled to be contested.
