No. 7 Women's Soccer Comes Out Strong with 2-0 Win Over Delaware in Exhibition Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - On the strength of goals from Aubrey Aden-Buie (Allentown, Pa.) and Sheree Gray (Toms River, N.J.), the No. 7 Penn State women's soccer team beat Delaware, 2-0, Saturday in an exhibition match at Jeffrey Field. The game was the first on the sideline for new Penn State head coach Erica Walsh. Penn State opens up at No. 24 Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.

With heavy substitution from both teams that cleared the benches during the tune-up, both of Penn State's goals came in the first half. Aden-Buie scored in the 18th minute, while Gray made her deposit in the 29th minute with assists from Ashley Myers (Bel Air, Md.) and Maura Ryan (Doylestown, Pa.).

Sophomore Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) was strong in goal for the Nittany Lions, with freshman Alanna Pawlowski (Tucson, Ariz.) seeing time both halves in relief.

Penn State opens its regular season at No. 24 Tennessee on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. as part of the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. Classic action continues when the Nittany Lions meet Central Florida on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The Nittany Lions travel to No. 16 Connecticut for the first Fox Soccer Channel NSCAA Collegiate Match of the Week this year on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. Penn State then makes its way to No. 21 West Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 9 for a 1 p.m. kick-off.

The Penn State Invitational will then be held at Jeffrey Field on Sept. 14 and 16. Action starts when West Virginia meets No. 5 Texas A&M at 5 p.m. The Nittany Lions take to the field at 7:30 p.m. vs. James Madison. On Sunday, Sept. 16, No. 5 meets No. 7 as Penn State hosts seventh-ranked Texas A&M in a Top 10 battle starting at 1 p.m.

The Nittany Lions are coming off an 18-5-3 Big Ten championship year in 2006. The squad also captured the Big Ten Tournament championship and made its eighth NCAA quarterfinal appearance in the past 10 years.
