University Park, Pa. - The men's and women's swimming teams and head coach Bill Dorenkott have announced its captains for the 2007-08 season that opens on Thursday with a dual meet vs. West Virginia at McCoy Natatorium. Four members of the men's team and four members of the women's team will lead the squads as captains this year.
For the men, Sean Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Rob Felty (Hummelstown, Pa.), Sean Swanepoel (Lincoln Mead, South Africa) and Dito Calderon (Bowie, Md.) will be quad captains of the men's team while Molly Crispell (State College, Pa.), Katie Haglund (Marietta, Ga.), Kelly Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) and Clare Clemens (Staten Island, N.Y.) will be the quad captains for the women's squad.
"This is terrific group of young people who will represent themselves and our program with class," Dorenkott remarked.
Biedermann, Felty and Swanepoel are all seniors while Calderon is a junior. Both Biedermann and Swanepoel are coming off their first career NCAA Championships appearance as juniors. Felty is a seasonsed veteran who will looking to wrap up his career with his first NCAA appearance just like former teammate one of last year's captains Dan Kaiserian did. Calderon is one of 21 swimmers on both the men's and women's team who have already qualified for next summer's U.S. Olympic Trials.

On the women's side, Crispell, a senior and native of State College, is a two-time NCAA qualifier and was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American last year and has a 4.0 gpa through her first three years at Penn State. Haglund and Nelson are two members of an extremely talented junior class, are both two-time NCAA qualifiers and are also Olympic Trail qualifiers. Clemens is in her second year at Penn State after transferring in from Indian River Community College, where she spent her first two years. She was a top eight finisher at Big Ten's last year in the 200 breaststroke.
The Nittany Lions swimming and diving squads kick off the 2007-08 season with a dual meet against the Mountaineers this Thursday beginning at 4:00 p.m. at McCoy Natatorium. Admission to all home swimming meets is free.
