UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Men's golf's Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) and field hockey's Mallory Weisen (Middleburg, Pa.) have been named this week's Penn State Student-Athletes of the week. Weisen scored the game winning goals in both of Penn State's victories this past week, while Foley led Penn State to its second straight tournament victory by posting a score of 15-under par.
As male student-athlete of the week, Foley's 54-hole total of 201 was the second lowest in Penn State history and the sophomore's opening round of 65 marked the lowest score of his career. Foley's low score helped Penn State boast a team total of 845 (19-under par), the fourth best ever in Penn State history.
Weisen, a senior on defense, is second on the field hockey team with six goals, five of which have been of the game winning variety. Against the No. 20 Syracuse Orange, Weisen opened scoring at the 15:45 mark, giving the Nittany Lions a lead they would never relinquish. In the 2-0 win over Indiana on Sunday, Weisen scored the eventual game-winner in the 13th minute. She leads the Big Ten in game-winning goals.
Weisen will look to continue her success in the coming week as the Nittany Lions take on Lafayette College (4-7) in Easton, Pa. on Weds., Oct. 10 at 6 p.m., while Foley will have to wait until Nov. 5 to compete in the Wolverine Invitational in Howey In The Hills, Fla.
