Students From 28 Area Schools Participate in 10th Annual Student-Athlete Shadow Day

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 26, 2007 ?? Students from 28 central Pennsylvania elementary and middle schools visited the University Park campus today to participate in Penn State??s 10th Annual Student-Athlete Shadow Day.

Fifty-five elementary and middle school students and 36 Penn State student-athletes participated in the event.

Student-Athlete Shadow Day provides area youth with an opportunity to experience a portion of a typical day for a Penn State student-athlete, as well as tour University academic and athletic facilities. Each student was paired with a student-athlete and attended at least one class, had lunch at the McElwain Dining Commons and toured various buildings and facilities on campus, including the Pattee and Paterno Libraries, the Penn State All-Sports Museum, HUB, Beaver Stadium and the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes. Some of the students took in a typical strength and conditioning session.

Student-Athlete Shadow Day is one of several activities Penn State student-athletes have participated in related to the 20th Annual National Student-Athlete Day.

Among the schools represented by students today were: Renovo Elementary, Park Forest Middle School, Ferndale Area Elementary, Easterly Parkway, Curwensville Elementary, Pleasant Valley Elementary, East Freedom Elementary, Liberty Curtain, Roaring Springs Elementary, Bellwood Antis Middle, Mill Hall Elementary, Osceola Mills Elementary, Philipsburg Elementary, Ferguson Township Elementary, West Synder Middle, Boalsburg Elementary, Central Mountain Middle, Sugar Valley Elementary, Martinsburg Elementary, Huntingdon Area Middle, Woodward Elementary, Dickey Elementary, West Branch Elementary, Lamar Township Elementary, Corl Street Elementary, Houserville Elementary, Lock Haven Catholic, Foot of Ten Elementary.
