UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Former Penn State football standout and current Kansas City Chiefs star Larry Johnson will be participating in the Second Annual THINK PINK Day proudly supported by Mimi Barash Coppersmith on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Iowa at noon at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Johnson will be on hand to sign autographs and taking photos on the concourse from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., as the Lady Lions prepare to take on the Hawkeyes. There will be a $5 donation asked for each autograph or photo opportunity with Johnson with ALL proceeds going towards the THINK PINK Day fund.
Johnson is also donating an autographed photograph and an autographed football for the THINK PINK Day silent auction.
"This is great to see such an esteemed Penn State alum and outstanding player supporting breast cancer awareness," head coach Coquese Washington said. "It's not just a day for women and as more men get involved in helping us work towards a cure and the more awareness that we get out in the fight against breast cancer, the better. We really appreciate Larry's efforts and taking time to support such a worthy cause as THINK PINK Day."
Johnson, the 2002 Maxwell, Walter Camp and Doak Walker Award winner, just completed his fifth season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2006 when he rushed for 1,516 yards and 13 touchdowns and had a career-high 36 receptions for 388 yards and two scores. Johnson accumulated team-best 559 rushing yards and three touchdowns in eight games this season before a season-ending foot injury.
This season, Penn State will donate $1 of every single-game ticket sold for THINK PINK Day to the fundraising efforts. The Lady Lions have been raising money for THINK PINK Day since the fall, which started with a THINK PINK kick-off event at the football game against Iowa in October. Additionally, the Lady Lions teamed up with the fall women's sports teams (field hockey, soccer and volleyball) to have Think Pink Days during their season to raise money for this year's THINK PINK DAY.
The Lady Lions are also earning money for the THINK PINK fund through sales of the Official THINK PINK Day T-shirt, the Lady Lion Cager Club THINK PINK Three-Point Challenge, the Shoot-n-Shop card, post-game ball launches, the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Pledge Cards of Hope, the silent auction on Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, as well as the live auction following the game.
Breast cancer survivors will receive one free ticket to the game and can participate in a special halftime ceremony. Survivors will also get up to five free tickets for friends and family to attend the game. Survivors interested in participating in THINK PINK Day should call Loren Crispell at 814-865-7286.
