UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team fell to West Virginia, 195.150-193.375, Saturday afternoon at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions posted scores of 49.025 on vault, 47.200 on bars, 48.10 on beam and 49.050 on floor while the Mountaineers recorded scores of 48.775 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 48.600 on beam and 48.825 on floor. Penn State captured all four event titles but fell short in the team competition.

Sophomore Alexandra Brockway (Macungie, Pa.) was named the Ann Carr award winner for the most inspirational gymnast of the meet as she captured the all-around title with a career-high 39.125, her first all-around score greater than 39.000 in her career history. West Virginia's Mehgan Morris finished second in the all-around with a 39.075, Lion sophomore Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) claimed third with a career-high 38.800, Mountaineer Amy Bieski placed fourth with a 38.650 while Lion sophomore Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) scored a 38.125 for fifth and freshman Kristina Beck (Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded a 37.625 for sixth in her first collegiate all-around competition.

Penn State opened the meet on vault, with Personett capturing first place with a career-high 9.975, the fourth-highest score in Penn State history, joining Katie Rowland's two 10.0's and one 9.975 during the 2003 season. Senior Aslynn Satterfield (Boalsburg, Pa.) tied for fourth with a season-high 9.775 and Rohrbaugh tied for seventh with a 9.750. Beck and freshman Danielle Hover (Hamburg, N.Y.) tallied a 9.725 and a 9.425, respectively, to close out the rotation.

On bars, Brockway claimed the title with a personal-best 9.900 but Penn State's next highest scorer was Hover, who tallied an eighth-place 9.500. Rohrbaugh placed ninth with a 9.375, Beck recorded a 9.250 for 10th, Personett notched a 9.175 for 11th and freshman Heather McElwee (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) finished 12th with a 7.400.

The Nittany Lions moved to the beam in the third rotation as Rohrbaugh shared top honors with West Virginia's Shelly Purkat, each scoring a 9.825, a season-high mark for Rohrbaugh. Hover placed fourth with a career-high 9.775 and Brockway finished fifth with a 9.750. McElwee scored a 9.675 to place seventh while Personett and Beck rounded out the Lion competitors with a 9.075 and an 8.950.

West Virginia's Amy Bieski, Satterfield and Personett all shared the floor title as they each scored a 9.900, Satterfield's career-high mark and Personett's fourth consecutive 9.900 score of the season. Rohrbaugh posted a career-high 9.850 for fifth place while Beck and Brockway both finished eighth with a score of 9.700 and McElwee tallied an 11th-place 9.100.

Penn State is now on the road for the next three weekends, traveling to New Hampshire on Feb. 9, North Carolina State on Feb. 16 and Ohio State on Feb. 24 before returning home to host Bowling Green, Cortland and George Washington on March 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall.
