Huntington, W.Va. - The Penn State men's golf team will have to wait another day to defend its 2007 Marshall Invitational title. The start of the tournament has been postponed due to heavy rain.
The tournament, originally scheduled to go three rounds, will be shortened to two rounds. Penn State and 16 other teams will begin play Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.
The Nittany Lions dominated last year's field, winning the tournament with a 36-hole team total of 565 and beating second place finishers Marquette and Ball State by 12 strokes. Penn State's score of 565 was the fifth lowest 36-hole score in team history.
Senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) will also be looking to defend his individual title Saturday. Rohanna shot rounds of 69 and 68 to win last year's Marshall Invitational at 5-under par. Sophomore Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) posted scores of 68 and 70 and tied for second place last year, recording the highest finish of his freshman season.
The 2008 Marshall Invitational, hosted by Marshall University, will be played on the 6,476-yard, par-71 Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W.Va.
