STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; May 6, 2008 - The Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse team closed out the 2008 campaign with a 12-11 overtime win over then No. 4 Georgetown on Saturday and two Penn Staters were honored with ECAC Lacrosse League Player of the Week honors for their efforts. Juniors Drew Adams (Springfield, Pa.) and Max VanArsdale (Rochester, N.Y.) were honored by the league.
Adams, a junior goalie for the Nittany Lions, withstood a 54 shot barrage from No. 4 Georgetown to help Penn State post a 12-11 overtime win. Adams gave up only 11 goals in over 64:00 of action and collected a season high 17 saves against the 54 shots (28 of which were on goal). Adams also led Penn State with six ground balls. The two-time defending ECAC Goalie of the Year ends the 2008 campaign with a 7.67 goals against average with 165 saves and a .611 save percentage.
VanArsdale, a junior attackman for Penn State, tallied seven points to lead Penn State in its 12-11 overtime upset over No. 4 Georgetown. He had four goals, including one of two in the final minute of regulation to help PSU tie the game, and the game winner in overtime. VanArsdale also had three assists in the contest. The single-game totals of points (7), goals (4) and assists (3) were each season game highs for Penn State this year. VanArsdale ends the campaign with 27 points off 17 goals and ten assists.
Penn State ended the season with a 7-7 overall mark, 2-5 in the league.
