July 2, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 2007 Penn State Women's Volleyball media guide (writing, editing and layout by Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Jen Armson with cover design by Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Brian Siegrist) was named the winner of USA Volleyball's Viggo O. Nelson Member Organization Communication Award. The honor is presented to the Best Collegiate Media Guide at a university with an enrollment over 25,000. The award recognizes organizations that have achieved excellence in volleyball publications and encourages others to develop high quality media guides and information packets. The 2003 Penn State women's volleyball and the 2006 men's volleyball media guides were also honored with the same award.

This newest accolade will be added to the long list of awards and honors that Armson's media guides for women's volleyball have garnered, both past and present. Aside from being recognized by USA Volleyball, this year's media guide was fourth in the nation in the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA). Previously, the women's volleyball media guide has also received national runner-up status in 2003 and was fourth in the country in 2004.

The 2007 Penn State Women's Volleyball media guide, a production of the Penn State Athletic Communications office, is an in-depth resource and guide to the 2007 national champion Nittany Lions. The 2005-07 Division I EIVA Sports Information Director of the Year, Armson was responsible for writing, layout, editing, design, and general compilation of the publication. Armson was honored in 2006 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the Grant Burger Media Award Winner, which is given to the top volleyball media professional encompassing sports information, print, web and broadcast. She was also named the 2006 Volleyball Sports Information Director of the Year and was the 2005 and 2006 Mideast Regional SID of the Year for women's volleyball.

The United States Volleyball Association is the governing body for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is committed to and works toward opportunity for all to participate.
