First-Ever Coquese's Drive for the Women's Resource Center Golf Tournament a Success

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Ninety-two golfers hit the links at the Penn State Blue Course for the inaugural Coquese's Drive for the Women's Resource Center, hosted by Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington on Friday. The event was capped off with the presentation of a check for $4,806 from Washington to Centre County Women's Resource Center (CCWRC) director Anne Ard.

"It was a great event today. I am blown away by the turnout and our final donation total to the Women's Resource Center in the first year of this tournament," Washington said. "I really enjoyed the opportunity to support the CCWRC and I look forward to next year's tournament where we can make it a bigger and better way to support the community. A special thank you to all of our golfer and sponsors that made this event possible today."

The team of Linda Haft, Joe Ready, Justin Ondyk and Mike Braniff won first place gross posting a 17-under par 55. The team of Sue Cromwell, Karen Krupa, Lisa Mensinger and Jeanie Andrews won the net team prize with a 15-under par 57.

Former Illinois head coach Theresa Grentz was the keynote speaker at the post-event dinner, which was provided by Prospector's.

Next year's Coquese's Drive for the Women's Resource Center is slated for Friday, August 21 at the Penn State Blue Course.

The Centre County Women's Resource Center provides services for victims of domestic and/or sexual violence. Counselor/Advocates are available 24 hours a day. There is no cost involved and all services are private.

The CCWRC provided services for 1,500 people last year in Centre County. Domestic and sexual violence happens to millions of people every year; from every religion, race, and economic class, in rural areas and cities, those with a college degree and in elementary school. Domestic and Sexual Violence effects someone you know!

The Lady Lions being the 2008-09 campaign with an exhibition game against California (Pa.) on Sun., Nov. 9, before opening the 2008-09 regular-season campaign with a three-game homestand against South Carolina (Sun., Nov. 16), Stony Brook (Wed., Nov. 19) and Prairie View A&M (Fri., Nov. 21). Penn State will also participate in the Third Annual Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden on Sun., Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. where it will face perennial national contender Connecticut, a game that will be televised on ESPNU.
