The 2008 Fall Rutherford Intercollegiate will mark the 33rd edition of the tournament and will feature 12 competitive teams for the three-day, 54-hole event.
Host Penn State, the 2007 and 2008 (Spring) Champion, will square off against 11 other teams from the eastern part of the country. These teams include Ball State, Bowling Green, Cleveland, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, Purdue, Richmond, Toledo, VCA, and Xavier.
There are five returning teams from the 2008 (Spring) Rutherford Intercollegiate; Penn State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), and Richmond. Penn State shot rounds of 286-286-306 (878) to win the tournament at +26, with Miami(Ohio) finishing in second place at + 42. Five Nittany Lion golfers finished in the top-20, including tournament medalist Robert Rohanna, who shot a combined 216. Nathan Sutherland of Miami(Ohio) finished in second place, three strokes behind Rohanna.
Former Nittany Lion player and assistant coach Adam Decker will return to Happy Valley as the head coach of Richmond. A 1997 graduate of Penn State, Decker is currently ranked seventh on Penn State's all-time career-scoring list with a stroke average of 74.90. In his senior season, Decker was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and earned GCAA All-American honors. In three years as a head coach at Richmond, Decker has led the Spiders to two team titles and an NCAA Regional appearance.
The tournament became known as the Rutherford Intercollegiate in 1983 to honor R.B. "Pop" Rutherford Sr., the man known to the Nittany Lions as the "father of Penn State golf." Rutherford organized the first Penn State golf team in 1922 and coached until 1949.
Penn State has dominated the Rutherford winning 15 of the last 16 years. Fourteen Nittany Lion golfers have placed atop the leader board, the last being Rohanna who has won back-to-back Rutherford titles. His win in the spring marked his fifth of his collegiate career tying 1996 grad Dirk Ayers for the most individual titles by a Penn State golfer.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The event is scheduled for 54 holes beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, 7:30 a.m. on Monday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, using tee times off both #1 and #10 tees.
FORMAT
The format for this event is five players for each team counting the low four scores for each round. Teams will be paired in groups of 3. Players for each team will tee-off in descending order. (5 to 1)
SECOND/THIRD ROUND
Players will tee off for their team in the order they scored on the previous day before of competition. Potential pairings and tee-times for the final round can been seen on the following page.
