Jan. 21, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa - Linda Woodring, Manager of Human Resources for the Penn State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, has announced she will retire on March 31, 2008 after a career that has spanned more than 40 years.

"We are genuinely grateful to Linda for her many contributions to Penn State Athletics and the University," said Tim Curley, Director of Athletics. We appreciate Linda and the leadership she has provided in overseeing Human Resources during what has been a period of significant growth for the department. Linda has been a highly respected member of our staff, effectively working with members of our department and the University on a wide variety of personnel-related matters. We will miss Linda's perspective, experience and contributions and wish her all the best in what we hope is a healthy and active retirement.

Woodring began her employment with the University in 1967 in the College of Agricultural Sciences. In 1970, she transferred to the College of Engineering before moving to the Office of Student Affairs in 1974. Woodring joined the Athletic Department in 1976, giving her more than 40 years of service to the University, 31 of which were spent in the Athletic Department.

In addition to her Human Resources work, she was also responsible for overseeing the Federal College Work Study Program, wage payroll processing, parking, the telecommunications needs for the department, keys, electronic access to Beaver Stadium, assisting with the car dealer program, and was also the IBS/ISIS Security Officer for Athletics.

"I have enjoyed my time at Penn State University," stated Woodring. "It is a wonderful institution and a great place to work. I will always treasure the people of Penn State and the many great friendships that I have formed over the past 40-plus years."

Woodring and her husband, Terry, have two children, Lisa and David, and five grandchildren.
