Women's Tennis to Wrap Up Fall Play at Yale Tournament

University Park, PA.; - The Penn State women's tennis team will travel to New Haven, Conn. this weekend to compete at the Yale Tournament. It is the third and final tournament on the Nittany Lions' fall schedule.

"The team has been eager to get on the court again," head coach Dawna Prevette said. "They are excited to close out the fall with a strong tournament."

This weekend will be the season debut of freshmen Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.) and Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.). Stracar won the New York state doubles championships in 2006 and 2007. Roth, a walk-on, complied a 125-7 career record at Lower Merion High School.

Joining Stracar and Roth will be seniors Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.), juniors Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) and Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.), sophomore Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) and freshmen Monika Mical (Stalowa Wola, Poland), Allie Hefter (Longmont, Colo.) and Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine).

Penn State will be one of six teams in New Haven, along with Syracuse, Yale, Boston University, Quinnipiac and Fairfield. The tournament opens with singles play on Friday and continues with doubles and singles on Saturday and Sunday.

After having the rest of the semester off, the team will kick off their spring schedule in a home match against Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 17.
